Night Hike to Bukit Timah Reserve

Saturday night 10 Jan 98, 43 of us gathered at the Braddell MRT Station, waiting anxiously to hit the road for the night hike. We reached MacRitchie Reservoir at 11.30pm. Here we began the most exciting part of the walk; to some it may be a spooky adventure. We called it the "Night Confidence Walk". At every interval of 5 minutes, solo or in pairs, we walked through the dense forest with only the moon lighting guiding us. It was a complete darkness in the beginning, however our eyes gradually adapted to it. We graced through the forest with minimal disturbance from the night creatures and the living…. In no time we were out of the forest. At 0215 hrs, we gathered at the carpark of The Island Country Club for some light refreshments and games. Half an hour later, we set off for our second leg to Bt Timah Nature Reserve. We walked on roads, mud trails, water pipes and steep stairs before reaching the peak of the hill. At the peak with the chilling wind on our exhausted bodies, majority took a few winks. It was a starry starry night. We left the peak at 0430 hrs reluctantly and reached the Visitor Centre 45 minutes later. At last, we completed the walk. To reward ourselves for the long walk, we had roti-prata and teh-tarik for breakfast at the nearby coffee shop. We had a terrific time and it is definitely a new and memorable experience.

Night Cycling

On a Saturday night of 21 Feb 98, marked another fun night out with the cyclist enthusiasts. A group of professional and amateur cyclists, gathered at the starting point Bedok CC for short briefing before hitting the road. Our first rest point was at Kallang Theatre followed by Suntec City. We cycled by Victoria Concert Hall, UOB building, and stopped at the famous hawker centre 'Lau Pa Sat' for supper before heading towards World Trade Centre. Arriving at Telok Blangah Heigths was a satisfaction for most amateur cyclists where we were captualised by the beautiful night view of Alkaff Mansion and its surrounding. On our way back, we covered Orchard Road, stopped again at Geylang famous 'You-Tiao-Da-Wang' for bean curd drink before heading off for our finishing line. Finally, we reached Bedok CC at about 6am, tired but satisfied. The ride was enjoyable for me, a first-timer. Next time if you want to explore Singapore at your own leisure, try cycling at night. Canoe to Boat Quay

It was not exactly a "beautiful and bright" morning, for it rained cats and dogs (maybe even elephants and zebras). This, however, did not drench the excitement contained in us. Fortunate enough, the cheerful sun welcomed us when we reached Kallang Sea Sports Club (klssc). We had a brief lesson on canoeing and with an enthusiastic heart, braved through the waves, bumboats and not forgetting the fishing lines to reach our destination. Armed with burgers from Macdonald and Kopi from Coffee Bean, we settled ourselves at the forum of OUB building, being entertained by the Indian Children who were busy filming for the Deepavali program. While relaxing, everyone began to joke and talk about our own life stories. We felt comfortable and joyful, and with this light-hearted feeling, we set off our journey back to klssc.

That afternoon was a bright and beautiful one because of the following buoyant and sporting X-venturers: Cythia, Maynard, Michael, Bizhen, Deric, ChewMay, Daren, Gina, Toh Geok Chuan and Gillian.
Special thank to klssc, especially Terry who has accompanied us through the trip, ensuring our safety
